Dick Gilmore was born and raised in Indianapolis, Indiana. He earned a bachelor's degree in physics and math from Hanover College and a PhD in biophysics from The University of California at Berkeley. He spent 8 years as a commissioned officer in the U.S. Public Health Service, then 30 years in academia, mostly in medical schools. In 1998 he retired from academia and moved to Tucson, Arizona. Dick served as the International Lay Director for The Upper Room Walk to Emmaus from 2001-2007. He resides in Nashville, Tennessee and enjoys reading, writing poetry, woodworking, and traveling.
