The Reverand Howard Rice served as chaplain and professor of ministry at San Francisco Theological Seminary from 1968?1997. He was moderator of the Presbyterian Church (USA) General Assembly from 1979?1980. Rice was one of the earliest practitioners of spiritual disciplines and formation and led the renewal of those practices in the church. For 20 years he helped Presbyterians and other Protestants discover spirituality within the Protestant-Reformed tradition. Rice died in 2010 at age 78.
